Attracting some of the most exciting galleries from the Los Angeles area and around the world, Art LA in only five years has become a major player in the international art scene. Art LA is alive and well and will continue in it's tradition of high standards in January 2011. In the current economic climate, with many galleries pulling back on their international fair schedules, we did not want to present anything less than the best. Over the coming months we will prepare for a triumphal return in January 2011 with a terrific array of participants,special events and programming.

Art LA will present challenging and intriguing exhibits, lectures and seminars throughout the year that will highlight the best in contemporary art in all media. Our inaugural exhibition, Photo Artillery: In The Realm of the Lenses, is the first curated exhibition by Artillery Magazine, is on view at Stephen Cohen Gallery in Los Angeles from January 15 - February 13th.

Art LA has not been sold. It has not been deactivated or ended. It's just resting. Art LA is the original New Los Angeles International Contemporary Art Fair and will return bigger and better than ever in 2011. Some of the exhibitors that have participated in Art LA since 2005 have included:

In the coming months look for Art LA events including a film series on Film Noir which is particular to Los Angeles. Film Noir resulted from the confluence of many events: smaller cameras, faster film stock, the rise of labor unions, the new threat of television even in it's infancy and the Federal Consent Decree which broke the vertical monopoly of the studio system leading to the beginnings of independent cinema. These films, often shot on the streets of Los Angeles, aided by the post-war political hysteria added to the development of a uniquely Los Angeles based American viewpoint. A film genre was born that has influenced artists, writers and filmmakers for over fifty years. Screenings of classic post World War II films, in a downtown film palace, will be followed by panel discussions with Los Angeles based artists as well as critics and filmmakers.

We will continue to create an environment overflowing with energy and excitement, giving collectors, curators, artists and those passionate about the contemporary art scene - an unparalleled opportunity to interact in a social setting conducive to the appreciation and enjoyment of the art fair experience. In January of 2011 Art LA will return for it's sixth edition to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
