"Anarchy & Riot" is an exhibition of selected art works made over the past three years where MK Kahne look for the examination of different aspects of the technological and societal progress and failure. The pieces whiches composes the show are made as single objects but they aim, exhibited together, to create an installation with the principle of cause and effect of social tensions, on the other hand the design and technique of the objects deals with different forms of violence.
The object “Suitcase Wheel“, for example, has a strong fetish character which corresponds with other works such as the business shirt with a tie and clip engraved with the words “Fuck you“. Next to it hangs a photograph of a burning car presented in a light box. The same photograph is printed on five T-shirts which will also be shown in the exhibition. Visually, the exhibition is a combination of chrome, neon light, acrylic glass, and black lacquer, and is based on the aesthetic of minimal contemporary design that you can find in shopping centers.
Pablo España has elegantly describes MK Kähne’s work as work has always been distinguished by the analysis of the “modern man” figure, his desires and ambitions. It was also evident in the impossible suitcases which once opened, they are displayed in a bar, a shower, a living-room, a urinal. Are linked through sophisticated devices intended to satisfy the needs created by the contemporary world. In reality, these are caprices aimed at a perceived user with high purchasing power that sets his/her social status on his/her constant mobility, but that only reveals the absurdity of looking for prestige and exclusivity at any cost.
